The town name, Torrevieja, come from the Torre Vigia, meaning watch tower.
What really makes this view point stand out is the reconstruction of the old watch tower which used to be there; the Torre del Moro (Moorish Tower). Its main function was to monitor the coastline to avoid potential pirate of Berber raids, which were common in the 14th C. This tower has a base diameter of 9 m, and has undergone many modifications throughout its history.
The tower is a view point situated in an area of 23,000 square metres. The area has a sculpture of The first resident of Torrevieja, there are children’s games and a couple of small huts as they were in old Torrevieja. From here you can see to the Tabarca island, or you can look to Murcia province and Mar Menor.
To find the park, find Calle Barloventi, go to the east end of it and cross Av. Alfredo Nobel.
